I live in Portland, Oregon, surrounded by my chosen family of four-legged and human loved ones. I travel often to climb mountains, dance to live music, and explore this amazing world.
I’ve always been curious about connection — within ecosystems, cultures, families, and even ourselves. I see the world as a tapestry of interdependence, with pathways to connection everywhere.
I'm Carly (she/her). I'm a Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist, mentor, teacher, animal lover, and adventurer.
Welcome!
My why
Individual healing → collective healing.
When we each commit to our self-relationship, we make it possible for our communities and loved ones to heal with us.
As humans, we need connection. We’re wired for it.
Relationship is part of our evolutionary story and our purpose: to care for one another and this planet.
Curiosity
Flow, adaptability, open-mindedness: Curiosity infuses life with joy and possibility, loosens our need control life. It counteracts judgment and can be an antidote to “isms.”
Unity with nature
I see myself as an interconnected part of the greater web of life and the natural world. I believe that tuning into our belonging with nature helps inspire the best of humanity, especially our ability to be kind caretakers of the planet and one another.
The values that ground my practice:
Compassion
Compassion asks us to see the best in all beings, offering unconditional positive regard to even those we don’t understand or agree with. Bringing open-heartedness to every interaction makes healing connection possible.
Orientation toward justice
All healing work is inextricably linked with justice work — since every part of our lives is impacted by the systems that contribute to individual and collective trauma. I’m commitmented to acknowledging and working to undo those systems.
Approaching my life and work as a lifelong student helps me stay curious while witnessing the processes of being human. I’m committed to deepening both my own self-study and my knowledge of the ever-evolving therapeutic landscape.
I am committed to lifelong learning.
Healing work is justice work.
I'm committed to serving my clients (and my wider community) through an anti-oppressive, antiracist, intersectional, sex-positive perspective. Here’s what that means in my practice:
Sex-positive means embracing human sexuality and gender in all its unique forms and expressions without judgment.
Antiracist means actively standing against white supremacy through my actions, words, and work, as well as by examining my own privilege and positionality as a white person.
Intersectional means honoring each facet of a person’s identity and how their lived experience is impacted by interrelated systems.
Trauma-informed care acknowledges that everyones lived experience impacts their mind, body, and spirit. When someone has experienced trauma of any kind, a certain kind of care is needed. In my work, I am always looking through this lens of awareness.
Inclusivity means welcoming and honoring folks of any gender expression, sexual orientation, relationship model, race, culture, religion, age, size, sexuality, and disability.
